CLUBE DE INGLÊS

Part of my EVS-project is the cooperation with the Agrupamento de Escolas de Arga e Lima that the children and teenager that go to Ludoteca of AJD attend. So since the second week of my EVS here in Portugal I spend two days per week in the school in Lanheses, where is located the main part of the schools.

From the beginning my project in Lanheses was to create an English Club similar to the one Gretel and Melanie carried out during their projects. As I didn’t had a lot of time before the summer holidays and for gaining an overview of the school and the English level of the pupil, we decided that I will first attend some English lessons, take care of organizational matters and to start with the Club after summer holidays.

So after summer holidays I finally started to carry out my English Club. The idea of the club was to create a space for the pupil where they can communicate in English and with it deepen their English. In their classes they learn English theoretically, they know the basic grammar and syntax rules and at least they have a basic vocabulary to make small conversations, with the English Club I try to give them the possibility to use their knowledge and I try to take away their fear to talk in a foreign language in a playful way, with for example games or riddles.

The majority of the pupils who attend my English Club is from the fifth grade. They are beginners in learning English, so they don’t know a lot of vocabulary, but they are eager to learn. To get to know more about the pupil and their English level, I started with some simple questions about their ages, their favourite colour etc. In the following lessons I always started the club with some new vocabulary for them, for example school material or clothes, after we played little games to learn and remember the vocabulary and to end the club we always played a game, which had nothing to do with the new vocabulary – most of the time by popular request of the pupil Simon Says.

I am almost at the end of my EVS, so I will also finish the project in Lanheses soon. I always had a lot of fun with the pupil and I was very happy when they started to bring their own ideas for games that we can play in the club, because this was also an objective of the club to create it together with the pupils.

Parte do meu projeto SVE é de cooperação com o Agrupamento de Escolas de Arga e Lima que as crianças e jovens que andam na Ludoteca da AJD frequentam. Assim, desde a segunda semana do meu SVE aqui em Portugal, passo dois dias por semana na escola em Lanheses, a escola sede do agrupamento.

Desde o início, o meu projeto em Lanheses baseou-se na criação de um Clube de Inglês semelhante ao que a Gretel e a Melanie realizaram durante os seus projetos. Como eu não tinha muito tempo antes das férias de verão e para obter uma visão geral da escola e do nível de Inglês dos alunos, decidimos que primeiro ia assistir a algumas aulas de Inglês, ia tratar de questões de organização e só depois das férias de verão daria início ao clube.

Depois das férias de verão eu finalmente comecei a realizar o meu Clube de Inglês. A ideia do clube foi criar um espaço para os alunos onde eles possam comunicar em Inglês e com isso aprofundar o seu Inglês. Nas aulas os alunos aprendem Inglês teoricamente, conhecem as regras básicas de gramática e sintaxe e, pelo menos, têm acesso a um vocabulário básico para fazer pequenas conversas. Com o Clube de Inglês eu tento dar-lhes a possibilidade de usar os seus conhecimentos e tento tirar-lhes a vergonha de falar em uma outra língua de uma forma lúdica, com, por exemplo, jogos ou adivinhas.

A maioria dos alunos que frequentam o meu Clube de Inglês é do quinto ano. Eles são principiantes na aprendizagem de Inglês, por isso eles não sabem muito vocabulário, mas eles estão ansiosos para aprender. Para saber mais sobre os alunos e os seus níveis de Inglês, comecei com algumas perguntas simples sobre as suas idades, as suas cores favoritas, etc. Nas sessões seguintes no clube eu comecei a ensinar novas palavras, por exemplo sobre o material escolar ou roupa, dinamizei sempre pequenos jogos para facilitar a aprendizagem e a memorização do vocabulário e para terminar as sessões do clube jogamos sempre um jogo, que não tinha nada a ver com o novo vocabulário - na maioria das vezes por pedido dos alunos era o Simon Says (o Rei Manda).

Estou quase no final do meu SVE, então eu também vou terminar o projeto em Lanheses em breve. Sempre me diverti muito com os alunos e fiquei muito feliz quando eles começaram a trazer suas próprias idéias para os jogos que podíamos jogar no clube, porque este também foi um objetivo do clube - criá-lo com os alunos.
